Kiltsforhire is also commonly known as Houston kiltmakers. Houston kiltmakers is a genuine 4th generation family business, established in Paisley outside Glasgow since 1909 specialising in all things highland wear.


Kiltsforhire is ran by the owner Ken MacDonald and his son Ewan following in his dad's footsteps. The business was founded by Kens great grandfather and our team of experts have decades worth of knowledge and experience.

Our Hires -

Your kilt pack comes with everything you would need for any occasion right down to your cufflinks, giving you over £1500 worth of our premium highland wear for a starting hire prices of £120.

What's included? -


-8 Yard Heavyweight tartan kilt in your choice of tartan

-Super breathable light weight high quality tweed jacket or black jacket.

- Your Shirt, Socks, Shoes, Tie, Sporran and all other accessories including your Flashes, Cufflinks, Sgian Dubh, Chain straps and Belt.



Our hire kilt packs are approximately 20% cheaper than when hired from Edinburgh stores.

We only supply the best quality of stock using out extensive array of high-quality suppliers and kilt makers and includes your shirt & socks as standard.


We have a range of hire options to suit everyone, do you already own a kilt? no problem we can hire you the rest of the outfit with everything else you could need for your highland wear outfit.



Long hires -

If you require a long hire due to going abroad & etc, we are always able to cater for you.


Hires are priced based on how long you have the hire. This is what affects availability, so typically you would pick up your hire a few days before and return the next working day after the function so we can dry clean our stock and be able to hire it out again, but this isn't always possible.


Long hires are priced based on how long you have the stock for and is slightly higher than usual, but we can ship & post your hire straight to your front door or venue in plenty of time.

Everything is still included and works like normal you just have the stock for longer. if local you can bring us your hire on the agreed return date and if long distance can be posted back to us.



Last minute hires -

We understand it's not always possible to prebook your hire 6 months in advance and we do offer last-minute hires. When booking a last-minute kilt hire we can turn around kilt hire packs same day if possible.



We will still always recommend booking 6-12 months in advance if possible.


Due to the nature of a last minute hire depending on availability during wedding season, we can't always guarantee your first choice and will give you options based on what we have available in your particular sizes.


Super express hires can be turned around in as little as an hour and we have an inhouse alterations team who can alter your hire for you free of charge. We are a 5-minute drive from Glasgow airport and easily located for hiring a kilt in the Glasgow area.

We can also post your kilt directly to your front door or venue.

Where could I wear a Kilt?

Kilts can be worn to an array of events beyond just Weddings, kilts are perfect for any special occasion including, dinners, balls, ceilidhs, dances, burns suppers, christenings, graduations, highland games, business trips, or even a football game.


Kilts can also be worn casually but also for formal events. You would style your highland wear outfit with all the accessories along with a black jacket like a Braemar or prince Charlie. Semi formal events are the same, but you can style your outfit with a day or semi dress sporran and tweed jackets. To wear your kilt casually we recommend you only wear your sporran, kilt, belt and either a jumper, t-shirt or ghillie shirt.

Glasgow Kilt walk 2024 -

The Glasgow kilt walk is an annual charity fundraising event in which people all over Scotland and the world come together to put on a kilt and do a charity walk.


There are 3 different lengths of kilt walk during this event with the longest being 22 miles from start to finish.


The 2023 Glasgow kilt walk saw 14,000 participants helping over 800 hundred charities throughout the event. this charity event is an ideal day out and great to raise money for good causes as there's a walk for everyone you have routes to walk.


The wee wander - 3 miles, 1.5 hours to complete from Loch Lomond shore to Moss O'Balloch park.

The big stroll - 14.4 miles, 5 hours to complete from Clydebank to Balloch, Loch Lomond.

The mighty stride - 22.7 miles, 8 hours to complete from Glasgow green to Balloch, Loch Lomond.

Glasgow Pride openly welcomes everyone to celebrate love and unity by walking through the high streets of Glasgow embracing all things LGBTQ+.

Transport, high street retailers and more will demonstrate their support by decorating themselves in Pride flags through the duration of Pride month in Glasgow.

Taking place all year around, you will know if a Scotland game is on when the streets & pubs of Glasgow are filled with patriotic fans wearing their kilts to support our national team.


Scotland is known internationally for our football culture, fans will often wear the tartan of their supporting team, we offer Celtic and Rangers tartan at Kiltsforhire. We also offer our own designed St Mirren tartan for paisleys football team.


Typically, when wearing a kilt to a football game, the kilt is styled with a day sporran and football shirts or a light jumper / polo or t-shirt.

What details do we need for booking -

If you can't make it into store, you can book online through Kiltsforhire and build your kilt pack as you would in store. under each tartan is styling advice and drop-down menus allow you to fully customise your kilt pack.
