The Kilt

Selecting your Kilt

We recommend an 8 yard kilt. All our kilts are made in Scotland, cut for growth & built to last a lifetime.

Made from pure new wool, heavy weight 16/17oz cloth is the best as it sits, hangs and holds it shape the best.

  • Machine stitched kilts from £495

  • Handmade kilts from £660

We are only place in the world, that you can see every commercially woven tartan in store.

Secure your kilt with a low deposit of £150 then pay it up to your wedding.

Picking your Kilt Finish

We offer a selection of different kilt finishes. All kilts come with three buckles and straps that are adjustable by 2" inches up and down. All our kilts are cut for growth so in years to come buckles and straps can be re-sized if required.

We pride ourselves in only crafting the best quality kilts available in Scotland and made to last generations.

  • Super machine finish - This is all cut and prepared fully by hand and then machine stitched internally. A very good robust kilt. To a very high spec.

  • Super hand made kilt - Kilt made fully by hand the traditional way. Fully Hand made kiltmaking is becoming a dying art. This is the most Authentic and traditionally made kilt

Choosing a Tartan

Heavy weight is the best for kilts, it sits and swings the best and is not any warmer than a medium-weight kilt.

It is what you wear on the top half of your body that builds up the heat.  Most of our customers go with 16/17oz heavyweight for their kilts as it holds its pleats well and doesn’t crease as much.

  • 11oz - Light Weight - Ideal for accessories, trousers, waistcoats & ladies wear

  • 13oz - Medium Weight - All round weight for kilts/trousers/waistcoats & accessories.

  • 16/17oz Heavy-Weight - Best weight for kilts & shoulder plaids

  • 19oz Regimental Weight - Very rare only available for a few tartans for military style kilts.

Deciding on your Sett

All of our premium kilts are made from 8 yards of cloth that is knife pleated and sett normally.

  • A normal sett is the most common & is when the pleats are folded to an exact representation of the tartan, i.e. the back of the kilt mirrors the front. This is what 75% of customers go for.

  • Regimental sett / sett to the line We can also sett the kilt to any prominent line in the tartan rather than following the traditional sett. This type of pleat setting is called Regimental sett / line pleat.

You can See our Regimental vs Normal sett guide for more information, on this.

Measuring Guides

WAIST -

  • Measure Waist Firmly

  • Kilt sits 1.5" above the hip bone around the natural waist.

  • Measure firm so the kilt does not slip down

SEAT -

  • Measure around the seat at the widest point with 3 fingers flush under (slack measure).

LENGTH -

  • Length- kilt should sit on middle of the knee

  • Height is a very important consideration

For measuring assistance please email us front, back & side pictures of your build, height & weight.
