MacNeil of Barra Ancient Tartan is a bright green and blue-based tartan. This clan descend from Niall, King of Ireland who came to Barra in 1049. Centered in Barra in the Outer Hebrides, there is a branch of the clan in Argyll that some historians have speculated was more senior in line, or possibly even unrelated, according to Scots law, the current chief of Clan Macneil is the chief of all MacNeil. There is a different tartan for MacNeils of Gigha/Colonsay.
